Over the weekend of July 28-29, we are holding a unique workshop on Soap-making and distillation is part of the Craft of Perfumery.
Soap-making is a fantastic hands-on workshop where you learn how to make your own (incredible) soap using all natural ingredients such as almond oil, castor oil, shea butter, coconut oil, palm oil and olive oil scented with pure essential oils. When you complete the workshop you will be able to make your own soap using the cold process method, and will take home 2-3 bars of your creation.
The workshop will include an introduction to the Craft of Perfumery and we will learn and apply its three pillars: Permanence, Tone, and Care. We will also delve into the importance of smell as a sense that can be developed to enrich our lives.
This year we will add a special addition: steam distillation of lavender! If you have never seen how distillation actually works this is a magical experience and a special opportunity.
The workshop is being led by Amanuel Zellelow, an expert in the art of making soap and a chemist, with assistance by Nicole Myers who practices the Craft of Perfumery and its connection to internal energy.
We also include time for meditation and reflection and time to enjoy nature. The Hudson Valley Park is a gorgeous 5-acre site with a retreat center, an open meadow, winding paths in the forest, stream and waterfall, a sacred fountain, workshop building and more. www.hudsonvalleypark.org (https://www.hudsonvalleypark.org/)
This workshop will include a one-night stay at the Hudson Valley Park.
RSVP by July 20 (firstname.lastname@example.org) which will allow us time to place the order for the soap-making materials. Space is limited to 9 participants so reserve early.
Food: We love eating well and healthy. Our volunteer cook is amazing! Let us know of any food restrictions. Dinner will be served on Saturday night. Breakfast and lunch will be served on Sunday (vegetarian). Please be prepared to pitch in and help with serving and cleaning up.
