Beyond Revenge: The Road to Reconciliation — workshop

Join us for a participatory workshop that explores how vengeance became rooted in our culture and how getting beyond revenge requires finding new, nonviolent responses to social and interpersonal conflict.

Using selected clips from the 2016 documentary “Beyond Revenge” and incorporating personal reflection and small group discussion, the workshop will explore how the concept of revenge has become a bedrock of our judicial system, our cultural myths, and even our daily lives. Recognizing how we are all affected by vengeance is the first step towards identifying new responses that break us out of its circular trap and open our future.

Soap-making and Essential Oil Distillation Workshop

Details

Over the weekend of July 28-29, we are holding a unique workshop on Soap-making and distillation is part of the Craft of Perfumery.

Soap-making is a fantastic hands-on workshop where you learn how to make your own (incredible) soap using all natural ingredients such as almond oil, castor oil, shea butter, coconut oil, palm oil and olive oil scented with pure essential oils. When you complete the workshop you will be able to make your own soap using the cold process method, and will take home 2-3 bars of your creation.

The workshop will include an introduction to the Craft of Perfumery and we will learn and apply its three pillars: Permanence, Tone, and Care. We will also delve into the importance of smell as a sense that can be developed to enrich our lives.

This year we will add a special addition: steam distillation of lavender! If you have never seen how distillation actually works this is a magical experience and a special opportunity.

The workshop is being led by Amanuel Zellelow, an expert in the art of making soap and a chemist, with assistance by Nicole Myers who practices the Craft of Perfumery and its connection to internal energy.

We also include time for meditation and reflection and time to enjoy nature. The Hudson Valley Park is a gorgeous 5-acre site with a retreat center, an open meadow, winding paths in the forest, stream and waterfall, a sacred fountain, workshop building and more. www.hudsonvalleypark.org (https://www.hudsonvalleypark.org/)

This workshop will include a one-night stay at the Hudson Valley Park.

RSVP by July 20 (nicolemye@gmail.com) which will allow us time to place the order for the soap-making materials. Space is limited to 9 participants so reserve early.

Hudson Valley Park is one of 60 autonomous Parks of Study & Reflection that have been built around the world by volunteers of the Humanist Movement and The Community of Silo’s Message. These Parks form a global constellation of communities dedicated to developing the human consciousness, promoting the study and advancement of nonviolence, and connecting to the sacred within and around us. They are an expression of the new spirit awakening in the hearts of people who search to go beyond religious, cultural and ethnic differences to the profound meaning of our common humanity.
